The Art of Elevated Thai Cuisine in Marbella

Thai cuisine has a reputation for bold flavours, aromatic herbs and dishes designed to be enjoyed generously. At Thai Gallery in Marbella, the focus is on showing just how sophisticated the cuisine can be. The restaurant was created around a simple ambition: to take Thai food to a higher level and give it the elevated dining experience it deserves.

We spoke to Jason, who now runs Thai Gallery, to discover what makes the restaurant different, how his family’s connection to Thailand has shaped its approach and why he believes there is so much more to Thai cuisine than the casual image it sometimes carries.

Elevating Thai cuisine

Thai Gallery grew from the success of the family’s first Thai restaurant, Sukhothai, but  with a different ambition. Sukhothai celebrates traditional Royal Thai cooking, while Thai Gallery explores what happens when those traditions are brought into a more refined setting.

For Jason, this is about changing perceptions. Thai cuisine is sometimes associated with inexpensive, casual food, particularly wok-based dishes. Thai Gallery wants diners to experience another side of the cuisine, where premium ingredients, careful preparation, traditional techniques and presentation all have a role.

“We try to put it on a premium level so people understand it more and taste a better quality or better version,” Jason explains.

The idea has resonated with diners, particularly in Marbella, where the restaurant has developed a loyal following.

A taste of Thailand’s regions

One of the most interesting elements of Thai cuisine is its regional diversity. Jason has travelled extensively in Thailand and has experienced food from different parts of the country, including the north, south and central regions.

Those regions have their own cultural influences, ingredients and culinary traditions, creating a cuisine that is much more varied than the familiar Thai classics found internationally.

Thai Gallery draws on that wider understanding of Thai food while maintaining a clear commitment to authenticity. The kitchen is fully Thai and led by Saksri Singhanat, known as Noom, and Jansong Prasar, known as P Tony.

The philosophy is based on traditional Thai techniques and preparations, with particular attention paid to the quality of every ingredient. In Thai cooking, Jason explains, ingredients need to be fragrant, aromatic and full of flavour, making the selection of produce an essential part of the experience.

Set within Puente Romano, Thai Gallery completes the experience with a tranquil garden and intimate interior designed to feel like a retreat from the bustle of Marbella.
